As a dentist for 20 years, I have come to understand that there are different types of patients, with different levels of expectations. There are some people that want to avoid the dentist all together, but their conscious will not let them. They are smart enough to realize that taking care of their teeth is vital to their well being, so they grin and bear twice yearly check ups with follow up on cavities, doing only the minimal dental care necessary to maintain their teeth. Those patients still need a dentist that is properly educated and trained, experienced and has an experienced staff, maintains a clean and sterile environment for exams, uses rubber dams, and explains necessary procedures. I know times are tight. I know that people are having a hard time making ends meet, and by now, if we all never hear the word recession again, it will be too soon. But, even as we struggle to put the worst behind us, I, as a dentist, have to stand up for your teeth and oral hygiene. Proper dental care is vital to your health, and little dental care left undone is guaranteed to become MAJOR dental care later. So, save on something else and remember your teeth.
